Cucumbers- Eastern Cucumbers: Go local . Squash- Eastern Squash : Go local! Squash is now readily available from New Jersey. The market will stay steady over the next several days. Tomatoes– Western: Reports of Baja quality have been good. There have been reports of CA Central Valley starting small production by the end of next week, but there is not a lot of fruit with color available. Roma tomatoes are very plentiful. Eastern: The tomato market (all tomatoes except romas) continues tight and is a great deal higher this week compared to last. Quality is only average. There is a lot of damage to the fruit. Food service will be very limited.
Local and Regional Markets- Blueberries are the featured item out of New Jersey. Great supplies, taste and good pricing have arrived together. ROW CROPS: TThis market is steady with good supplies at this time. LETTUCE: Expect lettuce to be on the heavier side as most shippers have caught up with their fields. Onions- The market remains extremely limited and demand exceeds supplies in all areas.
Potatoes - The quality is still good on the Idaho storage crop. Colored storage potatoes are still available. California new crop colored potatoes available with very good quality. Northern Florida with availability on new crop colored potatoes. White potatoes are still extremely limited.
Romaine Hearts : The cold weather is preventing the plants from cupping up to form hearts. The situation looks to remain the same in for the near future. Ice in the fields will continue to cause supply issues as well as causing long delays at the shipping locations. VALUE ADDED - Processors will likely be dealing with fringe burn issues on romaine and head lettuce. Some light bruising has also been reported on chopped romaine.

Haddock Fillet – Haddock has a delicate texture. The meat is lean and white and produces large flakes once cooked. Best to poach, bake, steam or broil. Also very popular smoked. Monk Fish Fillet – Lean & delicate with a meaty lobster-like texture. Sometimes called the “Poor Man's Lobster”. Pan-roast, grill or broil this superb fish. Escolar Fillet – Also called “White Tuna”.
