How To Cook A Herb Roasted Turkey

Thanksgiving is only two weeks away! It’s time to perfect your holiday Turkey recipe! The last thing you want is a burnt or dried turkey. Hearn Kirkwood is here to help you create a fresh, mouthwatering, show-stopping turkey.

 

One wonderful turkey you may want to consider is a savory herb rub roasted turkey. Even before one piece of tender turkey hits the mouths of your guests, they will be thrilled to sit down and eat simply from the fragrant herbs. It’s all about creating the right flavor for your turkey.

 

Best of all you can use the pan juices to make delicious turkey gravy. This turkey will only take you 20 minutes to prep and 3 hours and 30 minutes to cook. It makes for 12 servings.

 

You will need the following ingredients:

 

-      1 tablespoon of paprika

-      2 tablespoons of sage or poultry seasoning

-      1 tablespoon seasoned salt

-      2 teaspoons garlic powder

-      1 teaspoon ground black pepper

-      ¾ teaspoon ground nutmeg

-      12 to 14 pound turkey

-      1 large onion

-      6 bay leaves

-      1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

 

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Have a roasting rack placed in a shallow roasting pan. Begin mix your sage, paprika, seasoned salt, garlic powder, pepper and nutmeg in a bowl.

 

Next, place your turkey breast side up in your roasting pan. ½ of the seasoning should be placed inside the turkey along with the onion and bay leaves. Brush your turkey with oil and put the rest of seasoning on the skin of your turkey. Don’t forget to add a ½ cup of water to your pan and cover your turkey with foil.

 

Once in the oven, roast the turkey for 1 hour. After the turkey cooks for 1 hour, remove the foil and roast for another 2 to 2 ½ hours. The turkey internal temperature should be 165 degrees Fahrenheit and the thighs should have a temperature of 175 degrees Fahrenheit. Basting should be done every 15 to 20 minutes.

 

Once cooking is completed, let your turkey stand for at least 20 minutes prior to transferring it to your platter or carving board for slicing.

World Vegetarian Day Recipes: Healthy And Simple

The first day of October is celebrated as World Vegetarian Day every year. Vegetarian dishes are healthy, delicious and simply easy to make.

 

Enjoy one of the following two vegetarian recipes:

 

The Sprouted Salad


Ingredients

-      2 cups of Sprouted Grams

-      2 cups of Sprouted Lentils

-      1tsp of Sugar

-      2-3 Onions (chopped)

-      2 Tomatoes (chopped)

-      3 Green Chilies (chopped)

-      2tbsp Lemon Juice

-      1tsp Ginger Powder

-      Tomato Sauce 1tbsp

-      ½ Coriander Leaves (chopped).

-      1tbsp Chaat Masala/ Black Pepper Powder

-      Salt

 

This dish  will fill you up while providing you plenty of nutritious value. The salad contains sprouted grams, lentils, onions, lemon juice and tomato. To prepare this meal, soak two cups of the sprouted grams and lentils for a few days so they may sprout. When sprouted, the grams and lentils should be topped with salt and sugar. Mix them well.

 

Next, Onions, tomato, green chilies, lemon juice and ginger powder should be mixed well into the sprouted grams and lentils for two minutes.

 

Last, add tomato sauce, coriander leaves, chaat masala or black pepper powder into the salad. The recipe makes for 4 servings.

 

It’s a wonderful breakfast or lunch meal. It’s enjoyed best when served cold.

 

Homemade Tropical Iceberg

If you are a coffee lover, you will enjoy this cold coffee with ice cream recipe. Sounds easy. It is easy but it’s not just any kind of cold coffee…it’s coffee with texture.

 

The texture comes from how it’s blended with ice cream and takes only 20 minutes to prepare. You will need the following ingredients:

 

-      500 ml of Chilled Whole Milk

-      3 Scoops of ice cream (preferably chocolate)

-      2 tsp of Coffee Powder

-      2tbsp Sugar

-      Drops of Vanilla Essence

-      1 cup of Chocolate Sauce

-      1 cup Fresh Cream

-      1 cup Crushed ice

-      Electronic Blender

Directions:

 

  1. Blend chilled milk with one scoop of ice cream, coffee powder and sugar.
  2. Use an electronic beater or blender to whip ice cream and coffee into a frothy mixture.
  3. Put vanilla essence into this frothy mixture of milk, ice cream and coffee.
  4. Add chocolate sauce.
  5. Beat the mixture until it’s completely consistent.
  6. Fill serving glass to the half way mark and top them with fresh cream and drizzled chocolate sauce. Fill the rest of the glass cups with coffee.
  7. Add more fresh cream and drizzle chocolate on top. Add final two scoops of increase and 2 spoonful of crushed ice in each cup.
  8. Drink with straws. Cherries or any fruit can be used for decoration.

Fall Fruit & Vegetable Salsa Recipes

Fall is the perfect season to incorporate fruit and veggie salsa into your meals. If you want to get really creative, Hearn Kirkwood is here to tell you how to make homemade salsa and what fall meals would go great with your healthy and flavorful salsa recipes.

 

Making homemade canned salsa is the prefect way to use fresh garden vegetables and fruits before the winter comes. Canning tomatoes, peppers, apples, peaches and more are a way for you to enjoy the farmers’ harvest throughout the year.

 

Canned salsa can be kept for a whole year if properly canned.

 

If you are a fan of tomatoes, a variety of tomatoes can be used for making salsa and peppers can be mixed in to vary flavor and spiciness.

 

If you are not a fan of tomatoes, you can create salsa with cilantro, corn, pineapple and a variety of seasonings.

 

Salsa can be eaten with chips, crackers, or breading. Salsa can also be used as a topping for any meal of the day or added as an ingredient in other homemade dishes.

 

To properly can salsa, you need to make sure that the jars are sealed properly once you have cooled them. To make sure this happens for every can of salsa, your salsa must be brought to a full boil and poured into the jars while the salsa is still hot. These hot jars should be sealed with lids that have been prepared properly.

 

The following are homemade canned salsa recipes you can try today:

Homemade Canned Tomato Salsa

 

This recipe can make 12 to 14 pints. More or less pints made depend on the actual quantity of vegetables used in the recipe. You will need the following ingredients:

 

-24 cups of skinned and chopped tomatoes.

- 4 cups of chopped onions.

- 4 cups of chopped green peppers.

- 2 Jalapeno Peppers (the spicier you want your salsa, the more peppers you should add).

- 5 tbsp. Salt.

- 1 tbsp. Pepper.

- 2 tbsp. Chili powder.

- 1 cup of vinegar.

- 6 cloves of garlic- minced

- 1 can (6 oz.) tomato paste.

 

To remove the skin off of the tomatoes put them in boiling water for 30 to 60 seconds and transfer them to a boil of ice water.

 

The core and skin of each tomato should be removed.

 

Next, onions, green peppers and jalapenos should be chopped. Don’t forget to remove the seeds from the jalapenos prior to chopping.

 

Once chopping is completed, place the vegetables and salsa in a large pot. Put the pot over medium high heat until you see the salsa is at a full rolling boil.

 

As the salsa is cooking, prepare your canning lids and rings. You can do this by placing them in a saucepan with water covering them. Put water to a simmer. Turn off the heat after the lids have come to a simmer but don’t take them out of the hot water until ready to use.

 

Fill up your jars and place the prepared lids and screw on the rings to tightly seal them.

 

The jars will seal while cooling. You can make sure each jar is sealed by pressing down the center of each lid with your finger or thumb. If properly sealed, the lids will not move up or down.

 

Spicy Stone Fruit Salsa

Fruit salsa is quicker to make than vegetable salsa. One great recipe is the spicy stone fruit salsa. It only takes 10 minutes to prepare and makes for 5 servings.

 

For this recipe you will need the following ingredients:

 

- 4 peaches, chopped.

- 2 cups of cherries (pitted and chopped).

- 2 small or 1 large jalapeno pepper (diced).

- 1 lime, zested and juiced.

 

Combine all the ingredients and let the mixture sit at room temperature for 20 minutes. Serve at your leisure.

 

These salsas can be served over fish, chicken, Greek yogurt and more.

The Wine & Tomato Braised Chicken

 

This mouth-watering recipe includes chicken thighs smothered in herb-infused tomato and wine sauce. Cooking the thighs without the chicken skin makes this meal a very healthy dish. You can serve your tomato braised chicken over pappardelle or brown rice. Steam broccoli to make this a complete meal.

How To Make Bangers and Mash For Dinner

Searching for a quick and delicious meal to serve to the family? If yes, have Bangers and Mash for dinner tonight!

 

Bangers and mash sounds like a weird and challenging dish but it’s a relatively simple dish. It’s sausage and mashed potatoes but also it’s a traditional British dish.

 

But you can’t have a perfect bangers and mash dish without onion gravy. This gravy is the glue that holds the entire dish together and makes it a delectable meal.

 

You slowly poach your sausages in water and then you fry them in a pan. The temperature of the water should be measured with a meat thermometer. Next, you have to slowly sauté your sausages over medium-low heat. Your goal is to keep the sausage from bursting.

 

The reason the sausages are called bangers is due to the sound they make if they burst (you want to avoid the burst effect).

 

The following is a recipe for bangers and mash with onion gravy:

 

-      2 pork sausages or British bangers.

-      2 tablespoons of canola oil.

-      1 large onion (sliced thinly in half).

-      ½ tablespoon flour.

-      ¾ cup chicken or beef stock.

-      Splash of red wine.

-      Salt and pepper.

-      2 large russet potatoes peeled and chopped.

-      ¾ cup of warm milk.

-      5 tablespoons butter.

 

Directions For Cooking Bangers And Mash

 

First, pour a tablespoon of oil into a skillet and add a tablespoon of butter.  Cook and stir for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.

 

Next, bring to boil a pot of water to 149 F. Use a meat thermometer for exact measure. The sausages should cook in this for 20 minutes. While the sausages are boiling, add potatoes to a second pot to boil for 20 minutes.

 

As the sausages are cooking, sprinkle flour top of the onions and add a splash of red wine. Wait until the wine evaporates and add chicken or beef stock to it.

 

Put the onions on simmer and cook for 10 to 15 minutes. Don’t forget to season your bangers with salt and pepper.

 

Once your sausages are done, remove them from the boiling water and dry them on paper towels.

 

Pour 1 tablespoon of canola oil into a skillet and cook the sausages until they are all brown.

 

Mash your potatoes up and add butter and warmed milk to them. Season your potatoes with salt and pepper.

 

Place the potatoes on your serving dish and top them with sausage and onion gravy.
