How To Celebrate National Chocolate Covered Anything Day

This Saturday, December 16th, is one of the greatest food holidays ever created- National Chocolate Covered Anything Day! We all love chocolate, and there’s an endless list of foods that taste delicious when covered in chocolate. We’ve put together a list of unusual foods that you may never think to dip in chocolate but taste surprisingly good, with some healthier options thrown in the mix.

Unusual Food and Chocolate Combinations

  1. Chocolate Covered Sun-Dried Tomatoes may not sound very appetizing, but the combination delivers a very interesting and tasty flavor! Coat the sun-dried tomatoes with chocolate and let them chill in the fridge, then enjoy!

  2. Dark Chocolate and Black Pepper Goat Cheese Truffles may not be the most unusual combination, considering cheese and chocolate often pair well together, but goat cheese has a very distinct flavor. The result of this treat is a mix of chocolatey flavor that isn’t too sweet, mixed with the creamy-crumbly texture of goat cheese, topped with a dash of pepper to bring the two together.

  3. White Chocolate and Basil Mousse is a simple mousse to make but provides a totally new flavor. The basil is paired with cocoa powder as a garnish to the mousse, as not to overpower the decadent white chocolate taste.

  4. Chocolate Sweet Potato Oatmeal- there’s a combination of foods you’d probably never put together! However, the interesting pairing of sweet potatoes shredded and stirred into oatmeal with cocoa powder is weird enough that it actually turns out to be delicious!

  5. The Chocolate Eclair Hotdog is not for the faint of heart. The bizarre combination reins from Canada, and includes a sliced-open eclair covered in chocolate for a bun, and a grilled sausage topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. It’s definitely not the healthiest option, but since this holiday only comes once a year, it might be the right time to try it!

Healthier Options

If you don’t want to go too crazy this Saturday and stick to healthy foods to dip in your chocolate fountain, fruit is always a great option! Pretty much every fruit tastes great when paired with chocolate, but our favorite ten combinations include:

  • Strawberries with dark chocolate and whipped cream

  • Apples with milk chocolate and walnuts

  • Bananas with dark chocolate and macadamia nuts

  • Pineapples with dark chocolate and a sprinkle of sea salt

  • Blueberries with white chocolate and ginger

  • Oranges with white chocolate and pecans

  • Peaches with white chocolate and hazelnuts

  • Pears with dark chocolate and a drizzle of honey

  • Figs with dark chocolate with pistachios

  • Cranberries and dark chocolate mixed in oatmeal
