Healthy Summer Work Lunches
Over the last few weeks, we’ve looked at the numerous offerings that summertime brings to your meals when your health and fitness is a major factor. While you may always make it a point to serve your family and visitors to your home healthy and fun summer fare, once Monday rolls around, it isn’t always as convenient to treat your own personal daily meals with the same care and concern. With that in mind, here are a few ideas to make your own lunches as satisfying and healthy as the meals you prepare once you get home. Remember brown-bagging your meals can always be the most cost-efficient and healthiest option!
Use Weekends for Prep Time!
This basic solution is sometimes easier said than done, but if you make it a point to use your Sunday afternoon or evening to lay out your full lunch menu for the week, it’s one major thing you won’t have to worry about when you return to work. If, like most people, you conduct the bulk of your weekly food and grocery shopping on the weekend, make yourself a separate list of personal, healthy items you want for work. On Sunday, lay out you daily fare and either pack each one individually or, at least, get all the items together for quicker morning packing. If this time-saving practice truly begins to work for you, you can always use the same idea to make your family’s daily foods for the week, and get it all done in one swoop!
Leftovers As Part of Your Healthy Weekly Plan
If you make it a point to serve your family healthy options every night for dinner, you’re already one-step ahead in planning your own weekly work lunches. When you do your weekly shopping, don’t be afraid to buy a little more of all the ingredients that you’re planning on making your dinner each night, and make is a point to prepare a little bit more than needed – those leftovers can be deliberately reserved for your upcoming work-week lunches, and it’ll guarantee that your own daily fare is as healthy as what you normally serve your family.
