Ring in the Chinese New Year with Lucky Foods!
A new year has already started and though 2016 may not have been the best year, you can start 2017 off on the right foot. According to the Chinese, there are certain foods that should be eaten to promote prosperity and luck. These foods are commonly enjoyed around the Chinese New Year, which falls on January 28th in 2017. Today we’re going to be going over some of the most popular foods that are said to bring luck. Let’s get started.
– Eating greens is not only healthy but it is said to be lucky as well. The reason why greens are said to be lucky is that they resemble paper money. You can eat anything from green beans, spinach, cabbage, or salad mix to bring luck.
– Another healthy and lucky choice is fruit. “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” is a good saying for wishing health and prosperity for the year of 2017. There are many choices of tasty fruit to choose from to satisfy your taste buds.
– Fish is known to be a lucky choice of food, as it is believed to increase prosperity. It is also a very common choice of meat to eat as well. The Chinese New Year is starting soon; in China, it is believed that eating a lot of fish leads to good luck because the word “fish” sounds like the word “surplus” in Chinese. A surplus is associated with good fortune in China because of the commonly held belief that if you could save something at the end of the year, then they can make a good fortune in the following year.
– Pigs are sometimes associated with their filthy living habits, but they are actually thought to be lucky by many countries. Pigs are also thought to increase wealth because of the association between pigs and piggy banks. Their noses seem to point upwards which symbolizes looking forward to the new year. Popular ways to enjoy pork are by eating bacon, sausage, pork chops, or ham.
