Most Popular Thanksgiving Side Dishes

With Thanksgiving approaching quickly, it is now time to think about what will be on your menu on the big day. Whether you choose to mix it up with different flavors or go for a traditional Thanksgiving, there are some side dishes American families just can’t do without. So what should you make on Thanksgiving? Well, let’s take a look at the most popular Thanksgiving side dishes.

Mashed Potatoes

What is more “comfort food” than a bowl of mashed potatoes complete with turkey gravy? Made with cream or milk, mashed potatoes have graced our tables 1771 when a French man named Antoine Parmentier had a competition for making potatoes. But some sources say even the Incas preferred their potatoes mashed. And who wouldn’t want this creamy dish?

Some Kind of Stuffing

Not all stuffing comes from the good people at Stove Top. Many people have found their stuffing mixed with cornbread and sausage or even wild rice with hazelnuts and dried cranberries. Whatever kind of stuffing you prefer, just make sure not to cook it with the turkey or you may risk uneven cooking times.

Brussel Sprouts

While many people wrinkle their noses at this side dish, Brussel sprouts are not as terrible as many people imagine. Many people tend to hate these little spheres because of their bland taste. But when roasted with bacon, these sprouts are simply delicious and great dish for your Thanksgiving day table.

Green Beans

Green beans are also a staple for many tables. Whether you prefer canned green bean casseroles with mushroom soup or fresh beans with brown butter and almonds, these greens should be on your table too!

Sweet Potato

While it may seem a little over-indulgent to have two kinds of potatoes on your table, who could resist the traditional “candied” sweet potato casserole with marshmallows or brown sugar on top?

Thanksgiving is not just about food. It is also about spending time with your family and being thankful for all of the things you take for granted in life. Take a moment to think about how lucky you are in life and have a happy Thanksgiving!
