Hot Drinks to Try This Fall

With fall starting next week, we couldn’t be more excited. What is your favorite part of fall? From the fashion to the pumpkins, fall is everyone’s favorite time of year. But if you are looking for something warm to drink that doesn’t involve pumpkin, we have some recipes for you. Let’s take a look at some hot drinks for you to try this fall.

Hot Mulled Apple Cider

A specialty in New England, hot mulled apple cider is made with clove, nutmeg, allspice, and cinnamon. It is commonly served during the winter but is often found in the fall when apples are plentiful. For this beverage, you will need:

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of whole cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 dash of nutmeg
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 quarts of apple cider
  • 1 orange wedge
  • 1 whole clove

Combine the brown sugar, allspice, teaspoon of cloves, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and apple cider into a large saucepan and bring it to a boil. Cover the mixture and simmer for 20 minutes. Strain to remove the spices and service with a clove-studded orange wedge. This recipe is perfect for those crisp fall evenings at home or for your next Halloween party.

Old-Fashioned Hot Buttered Rum

Who doesn’t love the idea of hot buttered rum? This warm adult beverage is perfect for those toasty nights in. For this recipe, you will need:

  • 2/3 cup of packed dark brown sugar
  • ½ cup of butter, unsalted and at room temperature
  • ¼ cup of honey
  • ½ teaspoons of ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon of ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • A Pinch of salt
  • ¾ cup of spiced rum
  • 2 cups of boiling water
  • 4 cinnamon sticks, for garnish

With an electric mixer, combine the brown sugar, butter, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt until blended smooth. Transfer this mixture into a large measuring cup and add the rum then two cups of boiling water. Stir the mixture until the butter dissolves then divide into four mugs. Garnish with cinnamon sticks and service.

Why not try something new with your hot beverage choice this fall? Choose one of these two classic hot beverages and relax.
