How to Make Working Out Alone Fun
Working out is already tough, but what about working out alone? While it is always nice to have a friend, family member, trainer, or coach there to keep you motivated, sometimes there just isn’t anyone to work out with. Maybe they changed schedules at work or the timing just never worked out, whatever the reason, you may find yourself alone in your workout outfit. So how do you keep up with that motivation when you are working out by yourself? Let’s take a look at how you can stay motivated.
Make a Schedule
Begin your new routine by making a schedule, even if it is as vague as saying you will go two times this week. Just make sure you stick to your new schedule. Unlike when you are getting together to work out with other people, the nice thing about working out alone is the freedom you have. Working out alone allows you to choose a time that is best for you, not what is best for anyone else. You can head to your 24-hour gym at two in the morning or go after you get off work. Set your schedule and make sure you hold yourself accountable for not going by staying in on the weekend or not having that cocktail with some friends.
Everyone thinks a fitness goal is something that is the end result. But setting short term goals for yourself will allow you to stay motivated and celebrate along the way. Set a goal of losing 10 or 20 pounds, fitting into your goal outfit, or even just walking up a flight of steps without getting winded. These are small goals will keep you motivated and allow you to celebrate the little wins.
There’s an App for That
There are many different apps you can use to help you reach your goals. From apps to help you track your progress like the “Fitbit” app for your phone or the “Johnson & Johnson Official 7 Minute Workout” app to track your meals and give you workouts to do. If you are looking for something with more “flare” to it, consider “CARROT Fit” for iOS. This app is $2.99 at the iTunes App Store but comes with plenty of sass as the sarcastic AI leads you through a workout. The app comes with a weight log, BMI calculator, workout reminder, and mini rewards. Do some good for charity by downloading “Charity Miles,” where corporate sponsors agree to donate a few cents for every mile you complete. Find a charity to donate the money to then hit the road with this app on your phone. These apps will not only help you stay on track but will help reward you for your workouts.
Working out alone can be difficult but by sticking to your routine, eating healthier, and using technology, your workouts won’t be as lonely as you think.
