Transform Your Favorite Junk Food
Every time you sit down to water a movie, the urge to grab a bag of chips is almost overwhelming. During a movie binge session, it is easy to eat an entire bag of your favorite junk food in one sitting. But when you are trying to eat healthier, junk food can be the hardest thing to give up. So why not turn in your favorite junk food for a healthier version? Let’s take a look at how you can turn junk food into healthy food.
Whether you like salt and vinegar, sour cream and onion, or plain with some dip on the side, there is one base recipe to satisfy your chip craving. To make these base chips, you will need a large russet potato and some oil for baking. With a mandoline, carefully slice the potato in 1/10 inch slices. Make sure you cannot see through the slices. Once sliced, put the potatoes in a large bowl of water and soak for 15 to 30 minutes then drain and pat completely dry. To bake your chips, preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line two baking sheets with foil and lightly grease with cooking spray. Make sure the potatoes are completely dry and arrange them in a single layer on each sheet and brush them with oil. Bake the chips for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown and crisp. Let cool and toss with your favorite flavoring like buttermilk, onion, and garlic powders for sour cream and onion chips.
Many soda is full of artificial coloring, flavoring, calories, and sugar. So instead of chasing down your homemade potato chips with a soda, why not trade in your soda for some flavored mineral water? Adding lemon or lime to a glass of mineral water will not only give you the bubbles you crave, but also give you some vitamin C in your diet. Limes also contain flavonoids, which have anti-cancer properties. Who doesn’t love something that is both tasty and healthy for you?
If you are craving something sweet, try a guilt-free summer dessert. With these simple switches, you will be able to have your junk food while sticking to your diet.
