The Best Foods for Weight Loss

You don’t need to eliminate an entire food group just to lose weight. You just need to go for healthier foods and take in fewer calories than you burn. Making better food choices gets a whole lot easier in the summer because that’s when fruits and veggies are their highest. There’s a produce stand or a farmer’s market pretty much anywhere you go. When you’re preparing meals in the summer, you tend to go for things that keep you out of that hot kitchen.

The easiest way to cut down on calories for the summer is to enjoy what nature has to offer. Produce is low in calories and high in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber. Fresh berries, melons, greens, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, beets, and pea pods are all great choices for your delicious summer meals. If you’re in the mood for something a bit heartier, consider adding some rotisserie chicken. They are readily available at most grocery stores and, in some cases, can be quite inexpensive. Here are a couple other foods to help you lose weight this summer:

Chilled Soups

A good gazpacho is an excellent way to eat your fill and cool off. Chilled soups that have lots of chunky vegetables will help you fill up without eating too many calories, plus they’re delicious!

Watermelon!

Remember when you were a child and you’d come in from playing outside in the summer and eat half your body weight in watermelon? It turns out that can help you lose weight as an adult! Watermelon itself is mostly water, so it’ll fill you up without weighing you down. And it’s a fantastic way to cool off on a super hot day.

Grilled Veggies

Grilled foods are a summertime must have, and especially the vegetables if you’re watching your calories. You can even keep a plate of some in your fridge for when you just want to grab something quick. Some veggies that are particularly tasty grilled are onions, bell peppers, zucchini, carrots, eggplant, asparagus, and garlic.

Salads

Salads are another fantastic summer meal idea. You don’t need a recipe. All you do is rinse and chop your produce and toss it with some nuts and cheese and maybe some dried fruit. Top off with a bit of your favorite vinaigrette dressing and you’ve got a light, yummy meal.
