Healthy Recipes To Celebrate National Chocolate Day

This Sunday, October 28th, is National Chocolate Day! This special food day celebrates all things chocolate, as it falls right before the candy-filled holiday Halloween. While it’s fun to indulge with some chocolate candies on Halloween, there are so many healthy and delicious recipes to try! Continue reading for a few tasty chocolate recipes that are good for you.

Chocolate Almond Dip

Who doesn’t love a chocolate snack? This chocolate almond dip is the perfect afternoon snack, as it only takes 15 minutes to prepare and one minute to cook.

For the dip, you will need:

  • ¼ cup all natural almond butter (may be replaced with cashew butter or sunflower seed butter)

  • 2 tablespoons dark chocolate chips/chunks (70% or darker)

  • 1 cup plain coconut yogurt

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Simply melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds at a time until it is melted. Next, mix in the almond butter, then add the yogurt and vanilla and fold together into a mousse. As for toppings, choose from unsweetened toasted flaked coconut, slivered toasted almonds, cacao nibs, or a variety of your favorite fruits. This recipe is perfect for kids, as they will love creating their own treat and adding their favorite toppings.

Chocolate Orange Cashew Bark

If you’re looking for a great dessert to enjoy or to bake for a loved one, this chocolate orange cashew bark is perfect. The dish takes about one hour start to finish (including bake time,) and is full of healthy, yet decadent dark chocolate.

For this recipe, you will need:


  • 1 navel orange, medium-sized

  • 3 tablespoons coconut sugar

  • 1 teaspoon pure orange extract (or 2 tablespoons orange liqueur)

  • 1 cup whole roasted, salted cashews, roughly chopped

  • 16 ounces dark/bittersweet chocolate

First, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and map out a 10” by 10” square to give you an idea of where to spread the chocolate. Next, slice the orange into very thin rounds, then cut the rounds in half. Heat up one cup of water in a saucepan on medium-high heat and add in the coconut sugar. Add orange extract (or liqueur) and bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Add orange slices and reduce to medium heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Most of the liquid should evaporate and the oranges should look as though they are in a thick syrup. Remove the oranges and set on wax paper to cool.

Next, melt chocolate in a bowl over a pan of simmering water, and pour the chocolate onto the mapped out parchment paper. Top with orange slices and cashews, then set aside for a few hours until it is firm.
