How To Celebrate National Peach Pie Day

Happy National Peach Pie Day! National Peach Pie day is celebrated annually on August 24 during the peak of peach harvest season. As summer comes to a close, make the most out of this food holiday and summer peaches by making a homemade peach pie this weekend!

Benefits Of Peaches

There are many benefits of eating fresh peaches, including preventing cancer, supporting healthy eye and digestion, promoting healthy skin, and more! Peaches are high in phenols, flavonoids, and carotenoids, which help to prevent DNA damage caused by free radicals to prevent cancer. The antioxidants in peaches help to specifically target breast, lung, and colon cancer.

Peaches don’t contain any cholesterol, so they are a great snack for those who are looking to manage their cholesterol levels. The even help to scrape excess cholesterol from arteries, which provides a pathway for the flow of blood and oxygenation. Peaches are also a great snack for pregnant women, as the vitamin C in peaches helps to strengthen the immune system.

Easy As Pie

If you’re looking for a quick and easy dessert recipe, look no further! This recipe takes about an hour, including 45 minutes of baking time, and includes ingredients you already have in your kitchen. You will need pastry for a double crust nine-inch pie, five cups of fresh peaches, sliced, one cup of sugar, ½ cup of all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon of cinnamon, two tablespoons of butter, and two tablespoons of sugar.

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees, then start by stirring together the flour, sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl. Next, wash, peel, and slice the fresh peaches, and combine in the bowl with dry ingredients. Line a pie pan with pastry, combine ingredients into the pan, and dot with butter. Cover the pie with the top crust, cut a few small slits, sprinkle with sugar, then seal the edges. Be sure to cover the edges with foil to prevent over browning, and remove foil for the last 15 minutes of baking. Bake for about 35 to 45 minutes; you’ll know it’s done when the crust is brown and peach juice begins to bubble through the slits in the crust.
